About Us
Founded in 2022, Southern Sawdust was born out of a passion for creating things by hand. Owner and artist Jacob Southern started watching wood working videos with his dad when he was little. Over the years, both men continued to admire the craft, but neither had much experience. When his dad lost his mobility, Jacob started building simple American flags in the family’s garage as a way to connect with his dad and help with the healing process. Soon, those beginner skills and beginner flags became more refined and Jacob began to customize pieces for a growing number of dedicated customers.
Now Jacob builds his custom flags, cutting boards, and cornhole sets full-time. His dad still spends most days with him, helping in the woodshop. Jacob is on a mission to celebrate service members, first responders, and their families with his one-of-a kind flags and unique woodworking designs. A lifelong athlete and former Division 1 collegiate baseball player, Jacob is also passionate about supporting local teams and young athletes. He regularly loses track of time in the woodshop and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Dedicated to sustainability, Jacob sources his materials carefully and gets creative in the shop, reusing scraps to create unique products and gifts. He loves creating custom pieces that hold special meaning for his clients and is committed to always improving his skills to continue to produce the highest-quality handmade products for his customers.
